Price list of essentials circulating on social media is a hoax: DNCRP

A list claiming to show government-set prices for essential goods has been circulating on Facebook. However, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has clarified that this list is fake. The information was shared on the DNCRP’s Facebook page on Saturday.
According to a statement from the Director General of the DNCRP, a market price list for various essential goods is being disseminated on social media, which has come to the Directorate’s attention. The Directorate emphasised that no such price list has been issued by the government. Consumers are advised to be cautious of misleading information.
Previously, various Facebook pages and accounts had claimed that the prices were set as follows: potatoes at Tk 40, onions at Tk 70, beef at Tk 650, goat meat at Tk 800, and broiler chicken at Tk 140 per kilogram. The posts also suggested contacting the military if prices exceeded these amounts.
