Timely call expected to help in mitigate violence against minorities

Special Report :

Indian PM Narendra Modi congratulated Muhammad Yunus and the new interim government of Bangladesh as they took office on Thursday evening. He expressed hopes for a swift return to normalcy in the country and emphasized the importance of protecting Hindus and other minority communities amid ongoing violence.

Modi’s timely call is expected to greatly help in mitigating the violence against minorities, which is suspected to be perpetrated by Awami League elements, as claimed by student groups.

Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to collaborating with Bangladesh to achieve mutual goals of peace, security, and development.

Yunus was sworn in as the chief advisor to the interim government, along with 16 other members, by President Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, speaking on reports of attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh earlier in the day, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that New Delhi is monitoring the situation. He said, “We are also monitoring the situation, about the status of the minorities.

There are also reports that various initiatives have been taken by groups and organizations to ensure the protection and well-being of minorities. We also want to make it clear that it is the responsibility of every government to ensure the well-being of all its citizens. We hope for an early restoration of law and order in Bangladesh.

This is both in the interest of the country and for the larger region as a whole.” He added that India’s close observation and concern underscore the importance of stability and security in Bangladesh, not only for its citizens but also for maintaining regional harmony and progress.
