Shah Md Khasruzzaman, President of the Bangladesh National Lawyers Association and a senior Supreme Court lawyer, has issued a formal appeal to the Army Chief for the immediate release of individuals detained at the ‘Aynaghor detention centre.
‘Aynaghor has been reported to house anti-government detainees unlawfully held by certain government officials.
Khasruzzaman made the request in a statement released on Thursday, representing the voices of sixty thousand lawyers across the country.
He also called for forgiveness for the martyrs who lost their lives in the recent anti-discrimination movement led by students. “We are deeply sorrowed by this heinous act against humanity,” he said, addressing the gravity of the situation.
In a subsequent statement, Khasruzzaman urged lawyers to foster unity among students and legal professionals to support the broader goals of the student movement. He highlighted the need for societal leaders to uphold peace and order and stressed the importance of active participation in preventing attacks, violence, looting, and extortion within communities.
He also emphasised the necessity for collective effort in cooperating with the proposed interim government for the greater good of the country. “It is crucial for all of us to work together and support the interim government to ensure the welfare of the nation,” he added.
