Amid the sense of insecurity among the country’s minority communities, benevolent locals and Madrasa students are guarding the houses and temples of Hindu community and others to protect them from any sort of attacks or violence on them.

Following the overthrown of Sheikh Hasina from her seat of power, it has been reported that the minorities, especially Hindu community came under attacks, which was highly criticised both home and abroad, in different parts of the country.

When the situation was escalating, the Muslim community, especially the Madrasa students stood as a shield to protect the minorities from the attacks unleashed by the miscreants and other elements.

Students of Koumi Madrasa in Sunamganj district voluntarily guarded the Kali Bari Temple located in the town since Monday morning to protect the religious places of the Hindu community.

The initiative was applauded by the Hindu community people and expressed their gratitude for them.

A volunteer in Sunamganj Ammar Ahmad told the media that Sunamganj is a non-communal town where people from all religions live in harmony. “The Hindus are our brothers and sisters. We are standing before their temples to protect it. We will remain here till the situation calms down,” he said.

Due to the communal tensions, students, Madrasa students, political leaders have united to guard the temples and other religious establishments in Habiganj, Chattogram and elsewhere across the country.

When reports of vandalism and attacks on the minorities spread out, the Muslim community came forward to protect the Hind community in Habiganj since Monday evening.

A coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Russell Ahmed said, “The miscreants are systematically attacking various public and private institutions to discredit the students’ movement.”

“To prevent any attacks on places of worship, including temples and churches in Chattogram, we have established committees in each district and upazila to maintain vigilance since Monday evening,” he said.
