Statue, mural vandalised at Supreme Court

The statue built replicating Greek goddess Themes and the mural titled ‘Smriti Chiranjib’ at the Supreme Court premises have been vandalised.

The attackers also broke the door of the office of the Supreme Court Bar Association. They also removed the photo of the incumbent Secretary Shah Manzurul Haque from the row of secretaries’ photos, reports bdnews24.com.

After Sheikh Hasina left the country, excited crowds vandalised the Supreme Court premises on Monday.
On Tuesday, the statue built replicating the Goddess Themes was found without its arms and its balance scale. Only the torso was standing.

Initially, the statue was installed in front of the main building of the Supreme Court. At that time, many groups, including the Hifazat-e-Islam were against its installation.

Then it was installed near the annexed building.
The mural built commemorating Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman inside the Supreme Court premises titled ‘Smriti Chiranjib’ has been vandalised. The plaque bearing Sheikh Hasina’s name was also broken.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign and flee the country after thousands of protestors threatened her safety in his official residence in Dhaka. Before the protestors stormed the palatial house, the prime minister fled the country in a military chopper.

Disturbing visuals show dozens of angry protestors ransacking her chamber in the house. They also vandalised the prime ministerial compound.

The protestors also looted her official house. In a reported news, they could be seen going away with several personal items.
