Police-protesters clash in Magura leaves one dead

A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activist was killed in a clash between police and protesters in Magura on Sunday noon.
The deceased was identified as a Mehedi Hasan Rabbi, 30, general secretary of district unit JCD.
According to witnesses and police, BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists brought out a protest procession in the Parananduali Dhaka Road and Bhaina Mor areas of the city around 11 am in support of students’ one-point demand.
During the protest, they allegedly attacked the police with bricks and stones and vandalized police vehicles.
In response, the police used sound grenades, tear gas, and rubber bullets to disperse the protesters. Several protesters and police officials were injured in the clash.
Rabbi, who was shot during the clash, was taken to Magura 250-bed hospital, where doctors declarer him dead.
District BNP Publicity Secretary Advocate Mizanur Rahman confirmed Rabbi’s death.
Meanwhile, activists of district Awami League and its affiliated organizations took position in their party offices and the Dhaka Road area.
In addition, BNP activists in Mohammadpur Upazila allegedly set fire to and vandalized the Upazila Awami League office.
They also reportedly attacked and set fire to various business establishments owned by different leaders and activists.
