The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has decided to keep government primary schools closed until further notice across the country.
All primary schools, including Shishu Kalyan Primary Schools and primary schools run by the non-formal education bureau, will remain closed until further notice considering the security of students in the current situation, according to a notice, signed by the ministry’s Senior Assistant Secretary Satyajit Roy Das, issued on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com
Violence flared up across the country surrounding the quota reform movement for government jobs on Jul 15.
On Jul 16, six people were killed in clashes in Dhaka, Rangpur and Chattogram. The victims included students and pedestrians.
In the wake of the violence, the government issued an order to close all schools, colleges, and universities indefinitely.
The following morning, primary schools in eight divisional towns of the city corporation were closed.
However, as things escalated, the government gave the directive to close all primary schools across Bangladesh.
The decision to open schools from Sunday was taken during a joint meeting of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and the Directorate of Primary Education on Jul 31.
However, the government reversed the decision a day before the opening of the schools.
