Rangpur students, teachers, parents march

General students and teachers along with parents marched under the banner of Anti-discrimination Student Movement in Rangpur at the city’s Park Mor (Abu Sayeed Square) in front of the main gate of Begum Rokeya University (BRU) on Friday.
Students and parents of various educational institutions gathered with banners for peaceful assembly there. Teachers of BRU participated in the march declaring solidarity with this program.
The assembly demanded justice for all the killings, including the student Abu Saeed who was shot dead by the police during the quota reform movement, and the release of all the students arrested during the movement.
At that time, the protesting students said, “How did our peaceful movement become violent?” We had raised our demands peacefully from the beginning. Chhatra League, Jubo League and police attacked us, beat us, and created fear with the help of the officials in the government. They were the ones who fired at us. At that time, they demanded the punishment of the guilty persons through a proper investigation of the brutal killings around this student movement going on across the country including Abu Saeed.
Meanwhile, expressing solidarity, Begum Rokeya University teacher leader Dr. Tuhin Wadud said, “We demand punishment of the criminals through fair investigation of all the killings in the anti-discrimination student movement, including our student Abu Saeed.” The government should take all measures to bring back the fair environment of education by quickly accepting the fair demands of the students. Otherwise the government will have to take responsibility for any situation. We teachers have always agreed with the logical demands of the students, were by their side, and still are.
After the rally, a protest march came out from Park Junction. The procession circumambulates the main thoroughfare of the city. At this time, they were wet with rain and kept giving different slogans.
