The students of Brac University and East West University took to the streets in the capital’s Rampura, Badda and Aftabnagar on Friday morning, demanding justice for those affected in the recent unrest following quota reform movement.
Undeterred by the pouring rain, the students began their march around 11:30am from the East West University., reports media.
The students, many wearing ID cards crossed the Rampura Bridge, circled Brac University, and returned to East West University.
They chanted slogans and placed a nine-point demand.
Their chants also called for the release of fellow students who had been arrested.
Rajan Kumar Saha, assistant commissioner (Badda Zone), said: “Our job is to ensure the safety of everyone, including students, to prevent miscreants or third parties from misusing the situation for their own purposes.”
Earlier, students of private universities joined the ongoing movement demanding reformation to the existing quota system of the public service recruitment, by blockading various major roads in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, the quota reform protesters have announced their most visible program rooted in freedom of assembly since the imposition of a nationwide curfew for Wednesday – a “March for Justice” at the country’s educational institutions, court premises and major roads, to press home their nine-point demand
