Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court has granted bail to KM Rezaul Hasanat David, Chairman and CEO of Viyellatex Group, in connection with a case involving the vandalism and arson at Setu Bhaban on 18 July.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim issued the bail order on Wednesday after David submitted a petition. According to a Sub-Inspector of the court police, David was the first among the accused in the recent violence related to the quota reform movement to secure bail.
On 18 July, a group of approximately 250-300 unidentified individuals breached the Setu Bhaban premises.
The attackers vandalised numerous vehicles and motorbikes, ransacked various sheds and rooms, and ultimately set the property on fire.
Following the incident, a case was filed at Banani Police Station, with David accused of financing the perpetrators. After spending five days in remand, David was sent to jail, but has now been granted bail by the court.
David’s release comes amid ongoing investigations into the violence and destruction associated with the quota reform protests.
