Matiur Rahman, a controversial member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), has voluntarily retired from his position. This information was disclosed in a notification signed by Mokima Begum, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, on Wednesday.

The notification stated that Md. Matiur Rahman, attached to the Internal Resources Division, has completed 25 years of service. Following his application, he has been granted voluntary retirement from government service effective August 29, 2024, in accordance with sections 44(1) and 51 of the Government Service Act, 2018. During this period, he will not receive any retirement-related financial benefits, including post-retirement leave, lump-sum grants, and pension.

Matiur Rahman became widely known due to his involvement in the infamous “goat incident,” which brought significant attention to his tenure at the NBR.
