Limited train services to resume

The Bangladesh Railway (BR) will resume passenger train operations on a limited scale on Thursday, July 25, following a one-week suspension due to countrywide unrest surrounding the quota reform movement.

AM SalehUddin, Joint Director General (Operations) of Bangladesh Railway, confirmed to The media that commuter, mail, and local train services will commence from July 25. However, he clarified that no intercity trains will be operational initially.

“The decision regarding intercity trains will depend on the assessment report from the committee evaluating the damages to the railways. It is likely to be finalised within two or three days,” Saleh Uddin stated.

Rail communication was suspended on July 18 in the face of obstruction in Dhaka’s Mohakhali amid the quota reform movement.

According to authorities, railway lines were damaged in different parts of the country amid the unrest.
