DMP plans to prevent saboteurs leaving capital

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are actively working to prevent those involved in sabotaging the quota reform movement from leaving Dhaka, according to DMP Joint Commissioner (Operation) Bilpab Kumar Sarkar.

Speaking from his office on Thursday afternoon, Sarkar revealed that the police have received information implicating the BNP-Jamaat alliance in the sabotage efforts.

“The wave of development initiated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been selectively attacked by these saboteurs,” Sarkar stated.

He highlighted that terrorists targeted the main center setu building of the Metrorail project, which also serves as the main center for the Padma Bridge.

“These targeted attacks are aimed at disrupting the government’s development journey,” he added.

Meanwhile, a mass arrest campaign against opposition parties continues across the country, following the widespread unrest triggered by the recent general student movement.

Over the past nine days, police have arrested more than 6,000 people in connection with clashes at various locations nationwide.

DMP sources indicate that at least 2,200 individuals, including top BNP-Jamaat leaders, have been arrested in Dhaka alone in relation to 200 cases lodged by Thursday noon.

Additionally, the elite Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested 228 people across the country for their alleged involvement in the sabotage related to the quota reform movement.

ANM Imran Khan, Assistant Director (ASP) of the Legal and Media Wing of RAB, confirmed the arrests to the media on Thursday, noting that 55 of the arrestees were detained in the capital city.
