Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate of Chattogram Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman informed that Chittagong port and Chittagong-Dhaka highway are now safe for transportation of goods due to the activities of district administration and law enforcement forces. Addressing a meeting organised by the leaders of various goods transport associations at Circuit House on Wednesday (July 24) afternoon; Chattogam DC said that the district administration is determined to restore the normal situation in the country quickly. Korean EPZ with 30,000 workers, Karnaphuli and Chittagong EPZ with 2.5 lakh workers have already been commissioned. Almost all of the 500 garments have gone into production in this district.
In the meeting, when the representatives of various goods transport associations asked about the movement of goods transport workers including drivers during the curfew, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the law enforcement forces to consider their identity card or driving license as a curfew pass.
At the same time, he instructed all concerned including workers and drivers to be aware in ensuring the basic safety of vehicles. The Deputy Commissioner also said that coordination cells will be formed in consultation with various district administrations to ensure greater safety on the highway.
He said that he will also take initiative to open food hotels on the highway in a limited form for the drivers in the transport of goods. In the meeting, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) AKM Gholam Morshed Khan of the district administration advised to move several trucks together in convoy form to ensure safety. At the same time, he informed about contacting the control room of the district administration (02-41360604) for any need. In the meeting, General Secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association Abdul Mannan said that during the anti-discrimination quota reform movement of students, anti-independence gangs used ordinary students as shields to rampage across the country and vandalized important government facilities and set fire to hundreds of vehicles. However, except for Chittagong, transportation of goods has been damaged in almost all districts including the capital Dhaka. As a result, the government has been forced to announce a curfew to control the situation, so the situation in the country is gradually calming down. BGB, NSI, DGFI, Army, Police, Navy, Coast Guard, senior officers of various law enforcement agencies, officials of various organisations and institutions were present in the meeting.
