Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has again issued a stern warning, stating that appropriate actions will be taken in due time against those participating in the movements protesting the quota system in government jobs.
Speaking at a press conference at the AL president’s Dhanmondi office this afternoon, Quader responded to a journalist’s query about the ongoing quota reform movement.
He emphasized that the government would not tolerate any disruptions to public life caused by these protests.
Quader, who also serves as the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, assured that the government is committed to protecting the dignity of freedom fighters and would not allow any disrespect in the name of the movement.
“Patience is not weakness. What questions would you [journalists] ask if we were to retaliate against them today? You will see everything in time. Appropriate action will be taken,” he stated.
Recalling incidents from 2018, the AL general secretary highlighted that unfounded rumors were being spread to incite mass unrest.
He condemned the violence that occurred the previous day and reiterated the government’s resolve to maintain order.
Quader further claimed that there is a conspiratorial group behind the student quota reform movement, alleging that various conspiracies are being orchestrated both domestically and internationally to destabilize the current government.
He also mentioned that statements from the Prime Minister’s press conference were being distorted and that efforts were being made to manipulate court verdicts through force.
