80 illegal nets destroyed to protect fish in Chalanbil

Khanmorich and Dilpashar union of Chalanbil in Bhangura upazila of Pabna are now flooded. Chalanbil known as a treasure of fish, now are teeming with carp. On this occasion, the greedy fishermen have become active in killing the fish by throwing prohibited nets in the bill. As a result, fish production is under threat.
Local residents said that delicious fish such as Rui, Katal, Mrigel, Shoal, Boal, Kalibaus, Bata, Tengra, Punti, Koi, Magur, Byam etc. are roaming freely in the open reservoir here. If you can stop killing these fish, even after meeting the demand of fish in the area, it can be exported to different parts of the country. Upazila Executive Officer (Acting) Tasmia Akter Rosy said, strict messages have been given to the local residents and fishermen to prevent them from fishing, so that they do not use nets prohibited in the bill. Besides, to increase the production of fish, an initiative has been taken by the government to release carp in open water bodies.
Upazila Fisheries Extension Officer Ali Azam said monitoring has already been strengthened to protect carp fish. Apart from this, public awareness leaflets have been distributed and miked in the local market.
Upazila Fisheries Officer Nazmul Huda (current duty) said that 80 prohibited Chinese nets were burnt by conducting three mobile courts in the last one week to implement the Fisheries Act.
