A case has been filed against the anti-quota protesters on allegation of attack on journalists in the capital’s Shahbagh area.
The case statement mentioned that journalists were attacked by the protesters with the intention to murder, assault, obstruction, damage and intimidation.
Syed Asaduzzaman, Senior Manager of Human Resource and Administration Department of Somoy Television, filed the case as the complainant with Shahbag Police Station on Saturday.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbag Police Station, Mostazirur Rahman, confirmed the matter, saying that in the case, many anonymous persons have been named as accused.
According to the case statement, on July 11, at about 6:20 pm, students protesting at Shahbag area started abusing senior reporter Toha Khan Tamim (37) and Cameraman Suman Sarkar (36).
The agitators then started pelting several large bricks at journalists Toha Khan Tamim and Suman, one of which landed on Tamim’s left hand.
At this time, the agitators tried to take away the camera and the live broadcast device from Suman’s hand and took off the helmet worn by journalist Tamim and hit him on the head with an intention to kill him.
Apart from this, the agitators threatened journalists Tamim and Suman with death threats, according to the statement.
