Women should be involved in agricultural activities side by side with men as agriculture is the main driving force of our country’s development.
Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Wahida Akhter made the remark while delivering her speech as chief guest at a farmer’s training programme with the partnership in BRAC Bank-DAE Agricultural Development Project at Sugandhi Secondary School at Dighlia here on Saturday evening.
During the post-independence era, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had said the people of the country would never face any difficulty in food, she said adding that keeping this in mind the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has implemented various projects for more food production.
Now, Bangladesh is self-sufficient in food production, she said, adding that the government has increased various facilities for the farmers with a view to increasing food production as much as possible.
Chaired by Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Kazi Jahangir Hossain, the event was organised by Dighlia Upazila Agriculture Office.
Among others, Dighlia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khan Masum Billah, former additional director of Department Agriculture Extension (DAE) Khulna agriculturist Mohan Kumar Ghosh, focal person of Partnership in BRAC Bank-DAE agricultural development project addressed as special guests.
A total of 120 farmers from different unions of Dighlia upazila joined the training programme.
Later, the Agriculture Secretary distributed saplings of various species among the farmers on the premises of Sugandhi Secondary School.
