The boat makers of Chalanbil area of Tarash upazila are spending busy time for making boats during the monsoon season. Heavy monsoon rains almost every year Low-lying areas are flooded. Boatmen, fishermen and char dwellers start preparing in advance for the arrival of monsoon. As part of this preparation, boat building is going on in the coastal areas of Chalan Bill. Old boats are also being repaired.
Every year before the arrival of the monsoons, the work of making these boats begins in the villages of the Chalan Beel region. During this time, the busyness of the boat makers increased. Moving around, it can be seen in Hamkuria Bazar, Naogaon Bazar, Baghal Bari Char Matha, and Tarash that new boats are being made in full swing. Someone is repairing old boats better.
Talking to Majedul Karim Mohan, a Chalanbil resident of Kundail village, it is known that although the Chalanbil is not young in the dry season, Toitumbur becomes a Chalanbil in the rainy season. Then the boat became the trust of Chalanbil sailors, fishermen, farmers and traders.At this time, if the locals do not have a boat, many rent a boat on a monthly basis.
Suruj Ali, the boatman of Hamkuria Bazaar, said, during the dry season, there is no water in this bill.At this time these boats become useless and then they have to be repaired. I have already repaired 4 boats including one big boat and prepared them for monsoon.
Bakul Hossain of Binnabari village said that 100 boats of small and big types are made in this area during the monsoon season. Old boats are also repaired.
Now is the last time to repair the boat. Carpenters take 2 to 4 days to make small boats and 10 to 15 days to make big boats.Akashmani, Mahogany, Kadai, Chamalish trees are mostly used in making new boats.
