Floods cause Tk 50cr damage in Kulaura municipality

Kulaura upazila under Moulvibazar district has suffered extensive damage due to ongoing floods. The Kulaura municipality has also suffered from huge damage of roads, houses and drains due to prolonged floods.
In this flood, 18 km road and 12 km of Kulaura municipality drains, 1000 houses, 18 culverts, 10 educational institutions, 2 raw markets, many mosques, various cattle farms, ponds and offices have been destroyed. The damage amount is around Tk. 50 crore.
It will be said by the mayor of the municipality Principal Sipar Uddin Ahmad. He gave this information in a press conference on the ongoing flood situation in the hall of the municipality on Sunday, July 7. Municipal Secretary Sharadindu Roy, Municipal Councilor Md Lukman Ali, Saifur Rashid Suman, Zahirul Islam Khan, Ataur Rahman Chowdhury Suhel and Sultana Begum Laili were present at the press conference.
In a written speech at the press conference, Municipal Mayor Principal Sipar Uddin Ahmed said that since June 17, most of the areas of Kulaura Upazila were flooded. Similarly, a large part of Kulaura municipality was inundated with flood water. Immediately, 2 shelters were opened at Rabeya Adarsho Government Primary School and Yakub Tajul Women’s Degree College. Later at Sea-Bird KG School and BH Government Primary School
2 shelters are opened. In those 4 shelters, 400 flood affected people from 119 families have taken shelter. 10,000 people of other 2,500 families were stranded without shelter. For 21 consecutive days, people are living an inhumane life in their houses and in various shelters in water-locked conditions. Lack of clean food, water, can’t cook, can’t use toilet. Complete, part of Ward No. 2, most areas of Ward No. 3, partial areas of Ward No. 4, 5 and 6 were flooded. Roads, houses, drains, culverts, educational institutions, mosques, madrassas, cattle farms in 9 wards of the municipality have been damaged due to floods and heavy rains. In such a situation, the biggest problem is to provide food aid to the people who have been stuck in water for a long time.
