The Chairman of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), Md Tajul Islam, recently discussed the corporation’s progress and future initiatives in an exclusive interview with The New Nation at the BRTC office in Dhaka. He emphasized BRTC’s self-sufficiency, commitment to public service, and strong stance against corruption.

Md Tajul Islam told The New Nation that recently we have launched shuttle bus service which will provide baggage assistance to incoming passengers and facilitate elevated expressway services.

Two buses will operate from the airport to Jasimuddin Road in Uttara, significantly reducing transportation difficulties for passengers,” he said.

The Chairman highlighted BRTC’s dedication to public welfare, noting the installation of CCTV cameras on buses to ensure passenger safety. “Our employees are mentally and economically sound, and no one is corrupt. They work hard with honesty and integrity,” he affirmed.

BRTC has achieved financial stability under Islam’s leadership, transforming from a loss-incurring entity to a profitable one.

“After taking charge, I managed to pay 12 crore in July to BRTC staff. This was possible without seeking any funds from the Finance Ministry. We have recruited 1,400 staff in the last three years, all funded by our own income,” he stated.

The Chairman emphasized the promotion of staff based on talent and skills, fostering a culture of transparency and anti-corruption within BRTC.

“Our staffs enjoy various facilities and handsome salaries, motivating them to stand against corruption. BRTC is one of the most prominent and transparent institutions in Bangladesh,” he declared.

Islam also expressed his optimism about the BRTC football team, comprising young and talented staff. “We have selected 80-82 players who have engaged in district-level matches. They have been trained and camped in Gazipur.

I plan to organize a meet-up session with former BRTC football team players and have already secured the support of former Bangladesh National Football team captain Kaiser Hamid,” he revealed.

The Chairman called for cooperation from the Bangladesh Football Federation, the Sports Ministry, and other associated bodies to strengthen the BRTC football team further.

With these initiatives, BRTC continues to enhance public transport services while promoting sports, marking a new chapter of progress and transparency for the corporation.
