DU Correspondent :

Thousands of Dhaka University (DU) students have reignited protests demanding the restoration of the 2018 circular that abolished quotas in first and second class government jobs, and the elimination of what they term ‘unfair’ quotas from all government positions.

The demonstrations commenced on Monday, starting from the central library and culminating at the Raju sculpture on the Dhaka University campus, where students gathered to demand the cancellation of the quota system.

Under the banner of the ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’, students from Dhaka University, Jagannath University, affiliated colleges, and all colleges under the National University will stage simultaneous protests on July 3rd and 4th against the reinstatement of quotas in government jobs.

Nahid Hasan, a protester, emphasized their determination to restore the 2018 circular, urging students from all colleges and universities nationwide to join their cause.

He outlined the planned activities from July 2nd to 4th, starting with a procession from the DU Central Library to the Raju sculpture, followed by coordinated actions with Jagannath University and other colleges in Dhaka.

The students had previously issued an ultimatum for the High Court to retract its decision by June 30th. With no response, they have vowed to escalate their protests, including possible blockades, if the quota system is not abolished.
