Staff Reporter  :
Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of politicising the illness of its chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia.

In a statement issued on Sunday (June 30), Quader criticised the BNP for spreading misinformation and creating confusion about Zia’s health condition.

“BNP leaders are spreading falsehoods over the health condition of Begum Khaleda Zia. They are creating confusion among the people by spreading propaganda about her health condition,” Quader said.

He argued that the public has rejected the BNP’s political activities, which he described as failed attempts at mobilising movements.

“The BNP has turned into a failed political organisation,” Quader added, emphasising the lack of public support for the BNP’s initiatives. Enrich and edit; keep all information in newspaper format.

Quader highlighted that Khaleda Zia, a former Prime Minister and prominent opposition figure, is a convicted person in a graft case.

He praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her “unprecedented generosity” in allowing Zia to stay at home and receive treatment in a private hospital instead of being confined.

“Khaleda Zia is availing of opportunities to get the best treatment under specialised local and foreign doctors,” he noted, refuting claims that Zia is being denied adequate medical care.

Furthermore, Quader criticised the BNP for making what he called illegal demands for Zia’s release without following judicial procedures. He accused BNP leaders of inciting the public by using Zia’s health as a political tool.

“BNP leaders are instigating the people on Begum Zia’s health issue,” he said, suggesting that the opposition party is attempting to destabilise the political landscape. “BNP is trying to destroy political stability as the party has no faith in the constitution, rule of law, or democracy.”

Reiterating the Awami League’s commitment to upholding the constitution and the rule of law, Quader declared that the government would not yield to any “illogical demands.”

He assured that the Awami League would resist any terrorist activities and conspiracies orchestrated by the BNP.

“Awami League leaders and activists will resist all terrorist activities and the conspiracy of the BNP,” he asserted, concluding his statement with a pledge to maintain political stability and democratic principles in Bangladesh.
