Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :
A protest rally was held in Ishwardi with spontaneous participation of people from all walks of life under the banner of ‘Ishwardi Conscious Citizens’ to protest the increase in municipal tax. The protest rally was organized in the heart of the city on Saturday morning (June 29) at Bazargate area against the unimaginable, unlimited and completely anti-people tax introduced by the municipality very recently.
Rajibul Alam Ivan, Assistant Professor, Pakshi Railway Degree College presided. It was moderated by Sultan Mahmud Khan Bidyut, member secretary of ‘Ishwardi Shacheton Nagarbasi’.
Speakers in the rally demanded the withdrawal of unreasonable and unjustly increased taxes and said that the rule of the tax assessment process is to determine the municipal tax by going door to door on the spot and collecting real data.
But it was not done. Just as the number cannot be given without seeing the test book, it is not correct to evaluate the annual assessment of the building as physical and unrealistic without going to the site which the town’s people will not accept. It is unreasonable and unfair to increase taxes without providing various basic civic facilities including development of communication system in municipal areas, decongestion, supply of fresh water, cleanliness.
