The roof of a newly refurbished terminal building at New Delhi’s international airport partially collapsed in heavy rains early Friday, killing one person and injuring eight others, rescuers said.
“Eight people have been injured, one person is dead. Rescue operations have been completed,” Atul Gard, director of Delhi Fire Services told AFP.
The authorities have announced the cancellation of flights from one terminal.
A portion of the canopy at the departures area of Delhi airport’s terminal 1 collapsed at 5ama statement from the airport posted on the social media site X said.
Visuals from media showed water pouring from the collapsed roof and a taxi stuck under a pillar, even as rain continued to pelt down in the area, leading to inundated roads and traffic jams.
