A fire broke out at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon but was quickly brought under control by two fire service units.
The incident occurred around 3:30 pm in the furnace used for destroying evidence, located near the court’s jail. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire escalated suddenly while prohibited polythene was being destroyed in the furnace adjacent to the court’s toilet. Fire service sources stated that upon receiving the information, two units arrived at the scene by 3:40 pm and managed to control the blaze within five minutes.
The fire was attributed to the excess quantity of polythene, a banned and highly flammable material, in the reactor used for the destruction of evidence as part of the court’s regular proceedings. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in the incident.
