Fatema, a minor daughter (09) of one Hasib Shaikh of village Kismat-pakulia within Baintala Union under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat districts and a student of class-IV of Kumlai Govt. Primary School committed suicide on Friday (June 14) in morning hanging herself with a bamboo beam of the dwelling house after twisting her neck with a modesty scarf locally known as Orna at about10 am as a mark protest at her maternal grandmother.
This tragic incident took place in her maternal grandfather’s residence at Kumlai (Madhyapara) in the Baintala Union.
It is learnt from her family source that on the day she, her mother and younger sister were living in her maternal grandfather’s residence. In the morning her maternal grandmother decided to pay a visit to one of her ailing relatives at an adjacent village alone. But the ill-fated Fatema desired to accompany her. But it was rejected. Fatema could not take it easily and as a mark of protest she ended her life in this drastic way. After a few minutes her maternal grandfather Ahmed Ali returned home and found this tragic scene. At that her mother was sleeping in another room of the house. Then the Fatema was recovered and taken to Rampal Upazila Health Complex where the physician on duty declared her dead,
Somen Das, Officer-in-charge of Rampal PS confirmed the matter and told, as there was no complaint about the matter from any quarters the dead body was handed over to the relatives for burial purposes.
