Law enforcers have implemented comprehensive security measures in Kishoreganj ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, set to be celebrated on Monday.
District Police Superintendent (SP) Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PMM (Bar), BPM, stated, “We have taken all possible measures to ensure security for a peaceful celebration of Eid.”
Special security arrangements have been planned for prayer grounds across the district, especially in the eight municipalities and 13 Upazilas of Kishoreganj. Following the 2016 militant attack, heightened security measures have been taken at the country’s largest Eid congregation at Sholakia in Kishoreganj town.
A law and order review meeting was held on Sunday morning at the local Collectorate Conference room, presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate (DM) Md. Abul Kalam Azad.
The meeting was attended by SP Mohammad Rasel Sheikh, ADM Kazi Mohua Momtaj, SP (DSB) Noor-e-Alam, CS Dr. Saiful Islam, NSI Joint Director, RAB Company Commander, UNOs, and Executive Magistrates.
DC Abul Kalam Azad stated that police, RAB, and various intelligence agencies, both in uniform and plain clothes, are active at strategic points throughout the towns, including bus terminals, railway stations, river-ports, and ferry ghats, to prevent any potential problems.
SP Mohammad Rasel Sheikh told the New Nation that they are monitoring buses, launches, trains, auto-rickshaws, cars, microbuses, and other vehicles at key intersections in the town and the surrounding district to prevent crimes. District police, along with highway police, are overseeing highways to ensure a safe journey for people traveling home.
Large numbers of law enforcement personnel are working to curb snatching, toll collection, activities of dope gangs, and other crimes. Several mobile teams are patrolling the town and vulnerable areas to maintain law and order.
