Staff Reporter :
Sales of sacrificial animals will begin today at 22 designated cattle markets in the capital, just five days before Eid-ul-Adha, the second largest religious festival for Muslims.

Officials from the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) have confirmed that all necessary preparations are in place.

The DNCC has set up 9 temporary haats in addition to the permanent Gabtali market. Similarly, the DSCC has established 11 temporary haats alongside the permanent market in Sarulia.

However, a court directive has prevented the establishment of a market in Aftabnagar this year.

Peal Hasan, Information Officer for DNCC’s Public Relations Department, stated, “This year, 10 haats, including one permanent haat, will operate in the DNCC area from June 13 until Eid morning.

All arrangements have been made to ensure safe and comfortable trading.”

Innovative payment solutions are available to ease transactions. Buyers can utilize online banking without carrying cash, with instant bank accounts facilitated under the supervision of Bangladesh Bank.

Numerous bank booths will be set up at the market sites to support these transactions.

Additional amenities include facilities for ablution and prayers.

To maintain order, leaseholders have been warned against allowing stalls on the streets, with security deposits at risk for non-compliance. Law enforcement agencies will be present to ensure security for both buyers and sellers.

The DNCC temporary markets are located at: Dhaka Polytechnic Institute, Kanchkura Beparipara Rahman Nagar residential project (Ward 44), Mostul Check Post in Khilkhet (Ward 43), Sutivola Canal area at Vatara, Kaola Shialdanga in Sectors 16 and 18 at Uttara, Boubazar area, Mirpur Section-06 (Eastern Housing), Mohammadpur Bosila 40 feet road.

Abu Naser, Public Relations Officer for DSCC, announced the establishment of 11 temporary markets starting tomorrow. Each market will have a dedicated monitoring committee, including a magistrate, to ensure adherence to guidelines. Immediate action will be taken against any irregularities.
