A divorced-father Mohammad Naeem Howlader (35) committed suicide after slaughtering his five years old daughter Rabeya Basri Roza, in Kawnia main road area of the city on Wednesday at approximately 07:30 am. The incident happened on the third floor of a house called ‘Swapnabilas’ on the east side near the water tank area in ward- 2 of Barishal City Corporation.
The suspected killer father was a native in Ward No. 07 of Barakotha Union under Wazirpur Upazila of Barishal district.
According to the sources of the neighbors, suspected killer was a car driver owned by Opsonin company. Naim became mentally unbalanced when he dismissed from service and his wife divorced him four months ago.
After divorce Naim did not give his wife the responsibility nourish and bringing up of their daughter and kept the daughter with him. Then a month ago, sister of Naim rented the flat and he started living there with his mother, sister and daughter. At 07:30 am on Wednesday 12th June daughter Roza was slaughtered by kitchen sharp weapon (Boti) in the house and soon after that the killer fatheralso committed suicide by the same way.
Police later recovered the killing weapon boti from the spot.
Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kaunia police station, said police visiting the spot, recovered the two dead bodies and sent them to the Barishal Shere-Bangla Medical College morgue for post-mortem.
The owner of the house, Babul Howlader, said that Naeem Howlader rented this house a month ago.
He lost his job a few days ago and he supposed to get a new job after Qorbani. Palash, son of the house owner, said, around 9 am, Akhi Akhtar, the victim’s sister, informed us first and then we informed the police.
Sarwar Hossain, Assistant Commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police, said that six months ago, Naim Howlader got divorced his wife.
The victim’s family said that the wife wanted to take the daughter, but the father was not willing to give to them, and there was a regular argument between them.
Meanwhile, the police rushed to the crime scene and CID collected evidence from there. According to the police, the footage from the CCTV cameras have been recovered and the police started investigation.
The dead bodies sent to Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
