Staff Reporter :
A Barasat court in Kolkata has granted a 14-day remand to Siam, one of the key suspects in the murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar.

Earlier on Friday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman said that Kolkata’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken Siam into custody after he was arrested by Kathmandu police in Nepal.

Meanwhile, DMP’s DB chief Harun or Rashid, at a press briefing on Saturday noon (June 8) said, “Anyone involved in MP Anar’s murder will be brought under the law. If necessary, DB will go to India to interrogate Siam as well.”

Earlier on June 4, the DB chief said Siam is very close to Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen, a US expatriate, suspected to be the mastermind.

“It would be better if Nepal police handed over Siam to India,” he said, adding that it would be easy to proceed with the investigation along with the evidence.

On June 1, Harun went to Nepal for the investigation into the murder of Anar.

Anar travelled to India on May 12 apparently for treatment but went missing in Kolkata the next day. On May 22, Indian and Bangladeshi officials said Anar had been murdered, but his corpse could not be found.

DB said Anar’s body was chopped into pieces before dumping and that the chances of recovering it were very slim.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said Bangladeshis were involved in the well-planned murder and that the killers had been “almost identified.
