In a dramatic early morning encounter, a suspected drug trader was shot dead during a gunfight between members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and drug peddlers in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The incident took place in the Maricha area of Garjania union around 5:00 a.m.
The deceased has been identified as Nezam Uddin, a resident of Khurushkul area under Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
According to BGB Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam, a BGB patrol team confronted a group of drug peddlers led by Nizam at 5 a.m. The situation escalated when the drug peddlers set fire to the BGB’s motorbike.
In response, the drug peddlers opened fire on the BGB, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire in the bordering area of Morichhaya. Tragically, Nezam lost his life during the intense clash.
Acting on secret information, the BGB conducted a raid and seized 98 cartons of Burmese cigarettes and a staggering 20,000 pieces of Yaba pills.
However, the BGB confirmed that another man was injured during the gunfight.
