Cyclone Remal has caused extensive damage to the fisheries and agriculture sectors in addition to the loss of life in the southern region.
Thousands of houses were destroyed by the storm. Several important recommendations have been made in the ministry including taking government incentives, loan schemes to compensate the losses.
It should be noted that on the night of May 26, Cyclone Remal hit Barishal coast. After that, for more than 17 hours, it ran rampant on the land of the coast and different areas of Barishal division.
Total 19 people were reported dead. More than 80,000 houses were destroyed. Huge wealth and properties have been damaged.
The official said that it will take time for the farmers to recover from the loss of direct damage caused by cyclones.
Besides, it will take a few days for the seed beds or crop fields to be suitable for cultivation after the cyclone.
Delayed cultivation is also a cause of loss for the farmer.
That is why several proposals are being made depending on the needs of the marginal farmers.
Barishal District Fisheries Officer Ripon Kanti Ghosh said, the main reason for the loss of fish farmers and fishermen is the long duration of the storm, tidal surge and strong wind speed.
Those affected by the storm are being listed.
Apart from this, we are sending the expectations of marginal fishermen and fishermen to the ministry, departmental sources informed.
Nasir Uddin, Divisional Assistant Director of Directorate of Fisheries, said that 86 thousand 976 fish farming ponds and 6 thousand 906 enclosures, 120 crab farms were damaged in Barisal division in Cyclone Remal.
Among the six districts, Barguna has the most ponds damaged with 46 thousand 912 ponds. And the most enclosures were damaged in Pirojpur 1 thousand 895 causes damages of 7 thousand 92 tons of fish.
The market value of which is more than 150 crore taka. Out of this, 696 tons of pona fish, 159 tons of shrimps, 69 tons of crabs and kuchiya were lost.
A total of 31 fishermen were injured in the department but no one lost their lives. However, 1 thousand 19 fishing boats were damaged, the value of which is more than three and a half core taka.
