Quake measuring 5 magnitude jolts country

Parts of Bangladesh, including the capital city Dhaka, experienced a moderate earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale on Sunday afternoon.

The tremor occurred at 2:44 pm and lasted for a few seconds, as reported by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Farzana Sultana, Assistant Meteorologist of BMD, stated that the earthquake was felt in Dhaka, Rangamati, Cumilla, Cox’s Bazar, and Khagrachhari districts.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Mawlaik, Myanmar,
approximately 442km southeast of Dhaka.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s website, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

This recent quake follows another 5.5 magnitude earthquake that struck various parts of the country, including the capital, on May 29 at 7:13 pm.
