Bangladesh Railway (BR) initiated the sale of advanced tickets for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha celebration, making all tickets available online, announced Railways Minister Md. Zillul Hakim at a press conference held at the ministry.
The sale, which commenced on Sunday, includes tickets for all inter-city trains, with Eid-ul-Azha expected to be celebrated on July 17 in the country.
The press conference saw the presence of Railways Ministry Secretary Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir, BR Director General Sardar Sahadat Ali, and Additional Director General (Infrastructure) Md. Arifuzzaman.
In preparation for the holiday rush, the minister also convened a meeting to discuss the ministry’s plans for ensuring the safe journey of Eid holidaymakers.
Officials disclosed that tickets for June 12 were sold on Sunday, while tickets for June 13, 14, 15, and 16 will be available for purchase on June 3, 4, 5, and 6, respectively.
Advanced return tickets will be sold starting June 10, with tickets for June 20 being the first available. Subsequent return tickets for June 21, 22, 23, and 24 will be sold on June 11, 12, 13, and 14, respectively.
Sales for trains bound for the western zone will commence at 8:00 a.m., while those for east-bound trains will start at 2:00 p.m.
A total of 33,500 tickets for intercity trains are slated for sale during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festivities. Additionally, 25 percent of standing tickets among the total general-class seats will be available for purchase at station counters.
