Voting in the 2nd phase of Upazila Parishad election in Gouripur, Mymensingh began on Tuesday at 8:00am and it continued until 4:00pm.
The turnout was 41.23 percent. According to unofficial results of Gouripur upazila’s polls till 11:45pm Somnath Saha became the winner as chairman by bagging 54 thousand 921 votes in Pineapple symbol.
His nearest rival Md. Mofazzal Hossain Khan got 48 thousand 59 votes in Ink pot symbol. The other candidate HM Khairul Basar got 10 thousand 82 votes.
Md. Sohel Rana won vice chairman post by getting 42 thousand 506 votes on Palki symbol. His nearest rival Jahirul Huda Liton, General Secretary of Gouripur Reporters Club, got 29 thousand 23 votes.
Nilufa Yasmin was elected as female vice chairman by getting 41 thousand 380 votes in Duck symbol. The nearest rival Salma Akhtar got 21 thousand 933 votes in the Butterfly symbol.
