At least two sand workers died and 7 other injured due to lightning in Chela river in Nasirnagar area in Doarabazar upazila of Sunamganj on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Dulan Miah of Noagaon (Ganeshpur) village of Chatak and Qaddus Miah of Bahadurpur village in Chatak. The injured are being treated at the local hospital.
The locals said, like every day, on Monday morning, steel body boats came to Chelandi to extract sand along with some other workers who were killed. In such a situation, lightning occurs in the morning with rain.
Labourer Quddus Mia was killed instantly. After rescuing the rest and taking them sent to Doarabazar Hospital while on duty doctor declared Dulan Mia dead.
