2 more nuclear power units at Rooppur

Bangladesh and Russia have agreed to set up two more nuclear power units at Rooppur in Ishwardi. The matter was discussed recently during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Ganobhaban of Russia’s state nuclear agency Rosatom Director General (DG) Alexei Likhachev.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh-Russia agreed to set up two more nuclear power units at Rooppur. Construction of the new plant is said to begin only after the completion of the construction of the 1st and 2nd units the physical startup (trial run) will be completed by this year and power will be available in 2025. This news was informed in a press release sent by the media of Rosatom.
Alexey Likhachev said, “One of the most important milestones in the construction of the Ruppur Nuclear Power Project is about to be achieved. Physical startup of the first unit will happen before the end of this year. Currently we are discussing new projects. Bangladesh has expressed keen interest in building two more nuclear power units at the Rooppur NPP site. Also under review is the construction of high capacity multipurpose research reactors. Research reactors are capable of providing various solutions in the fields of science and nuclear medicine”.
One of the mega projects of the country is nuclear power plant under construction at Rooppur in Ishwardi. The first unit of Rooppur nuclear power plant is going to be commissioned by the end of this year. And the entire center will be operational by 2025. Bangladesh is going to create a new record in the implementation of this complex project in a short period of time.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Science says that the mega power plant is now being prepared for commissioning after importing nuclear fuel. The manufacturer country Russia is also giving full assurance to Bangladesh to explain the project within the stipulated time.
It is known that the third generation reactor or nuclear reactor of VVER technology is being used in this project under construction with the financial and technical support of Russia. Each of which has a production capacity of 1200 MW.
