RMG workers block Dhaka street

Readymade Garment (RMG) workers have blocked the Kuril Bishwa Road under the Bhatara police station in the capital, demanding arrears in salary.

Due to their blockade, the busiest road has come to a standstill. Traffic wasclosed on both sides of the road in that area.

On Wednesday afternoon (5:30 pm), workers of a garment factory named Euro Zone Fashions Limited on Zamzam Road in Zoar Sahara blocked the road under the Kuril flyover.

The agitated workers demand that their salaries and allowances be stopped. Even the arrears salary has not been paid yet.

As there is no solution, they are forced to take to the streets. Meanwhile, severe traffic jams have been created in the Kuril flyover area due to a road blockade by RMG workers.

In this regard, Badda Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) Hasanuzzaman Molla told the media that the workers of a factory named Euro Zone Fashions Limited are protesting by blocking the road under the Kuril flyover, demanding payment of salaries and previous arrears.

Considering the issue, additional police have also been deployed in the area to prevent any kind of disturbance, ADC added.

Assistant Commissioner of Traffic, Gulshan Division (Bada Zone), Shubo Kumar Ghosh, said that the situation is critical due to the blockade of the road by garment workers.

Heavy traffic has been created in front and back of Kuril Bishwa Road. Officers of the Crime Division, Thana Police, and Traffic Division are working together at the spot.

Earlier, the workers protested the closure of a garment factory named Neparel Garments Limited without any notice on the morning of May 4 by blocking the road in Banani, the capital.

This caused a severe traffic jam on almost all the roads from Mahakhali to the airport areas.

Common people also experienced enormous suffering.

After the blockade for about one and a half hours, the workers left the road but were seen waiting for an agreement with the owners.
