High-tech exam cheating ring busted

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has apprehended seven individuals suspected of being part of a gang that leaked question papers and provided answers during various job recruitment exams using high-tech devices.

The arrests were confirmed by Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, Additional Commissioner (DB Chief) of DMP, during a press conference held on Sunday afternoon at his Mintu Road office.

The apprehended individuals have been identified as Md. Jewel Khan (40), Md. Russell (30), Md. Mahmudul Hasan Shakil (39), Md. Abdur Rahman (38), Md. Ariful Islam (35), Md. Azharul Islam (29), and Md. Masum Howladar (25).

According to Rashid, the gang employed “high-tech devices” to solve the question papers within a mere 10 minutes. Examinees involved in the scheme would conceal these devices within their undergarments, while nano headphones were connected to their ears to receive answers.

The DB Chief revealed that the gang had amassed significant wealth, estimated in lakhs of taka, by supplying exam answers through these sophisticated digital devices across various job recruitment exams. He further elaborated that their charges varied depending on the job type, ranging from Tk 3-5 lakh for MCQ written exams and reaching Tk 8-10 lakh for combined written and viva exam.
