Former lawmaker Gias Uddin sent to jail in graft case

BSS: A court here today sent former BNP lawmaker from Narayanganj-4 constituency Mohammad Gias Uddin to jail in a case lodged over amassing illegal wealth of Taka 1.41 crore.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain passed the order as the accused surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Jahangir Alam filed the case on December 19, 2021, for amassing wealth of Taka 1.41 crore beyond known source of income. The anti-graft body later filed charge-sheet against him.
According to the case documents, the ACC on November 2, 2020, sent the former Narayanganj-4 lawmaker notice to submit his wealth statement. Following the ACC notice, Gias Uddin submitted his wealth statement on December 23, 2020. The ACC, after scrutinizing the statement, found wealth of Taka 1.41 crore beyond his known source of income.
