Ragpicker injured in Naya Paltan crude bomb explosion

A teenager sustained injuries on Saturday afternoon after a crude bomb exploded in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan area.

The victim, identified as 16-year-old Mohammad Sani, son of Titu Mia from the capital’s Kakrail area, is a ragpicker who frequents the area to collect recyclable materials.

The incident occurred around 2:00 pm on Saturday.

According to Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ali of Paltan Thana Police, “Sani came across a shopping bag and peeked inside, unaware of its contents. Tragically, the object within the bag detonated, causing injuries to Sani’s hands and legs.”Following the explosion, Paltan Thana Police promptly responded and rushed Sani to the Rajarbagh Police Hospital for initial treatment.

Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further medical care.

Police are currently investigating the incident to determine the origin of the crude bomb and the reason behind its placement in a public area.
