In response to growing international concerns regarding potential side effects of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen has taken decisive action by ordering a comprehensive survey to assess the experiences of vaccine recipients in Bangladesh.

The directive was issued during a crucial meeting focused on strengthening the “Immunization Program for Ensuring Universal Health Services” held at the Cirdap Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday.

Dr. Samanta Lal emphasized the importance of obtaining localized data, stating, “Until we understand the extent of potential side effects within our country, it is premature to draw conclusions. However, we are actively monitoring the situation.”

Acknowledging global reports of adverse events linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine, the minister underscored that no such harmful symptoms have been reported within Bangladesh thus far, reassuring the public that the vaccination program would continue uninterrupted.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens,” Dr. Samanta Lal affirmed. “I have instructed the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to conduct a thorough survey among vaccine recipients to gather pertinent information.”

The AstraZeneca vaccine has faced scrutiny worldwide, with several countries opting to withdraw its use due to reported side effects, including fatalities.
