A large quantity of fake Akiz bidis with huge fake bandrolls and various materials for making bidis have been seized in a raid in Tolatlipara village of Teredia in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia . Kushtia Customs, Excise and VAT Bheramara raided circle-2 around 2.30 pm on Sunday.
According to sources of Customs, Excise and VAT Department, an unscrupulous gang has been illegally producing beedis by putting fake bandrolls in different places of Kushtia district for a long time by evading huge amount of government revenue. The gang has been supplying and selling these illegal bidis in different districts of the country. Based on secret information, a check team of Kushtia Customs, Excise and VAT Bheramara Circle-2 conducted a raid and search at Geda Mia’s house in Tolatlipara village, Teredia, Daulatpur upazila.
At that time, forty thousand (40,000) shalaka fake bandrolled Akiz bidis were seized from that house. Besides, a large quantity of fake bandrolls and various materials for making fake bidis have been seized.
On hearing the news of the raid, the accused fled away with fake bidis and bidi-making materials. At the end of the raid, the seized fake Akiz bidis and bidi-making equipment have been taken into customs custody.
