JnU Correspondent :
Dr. Md. Abul Hossen, the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, has filed a written complaint against Assistant Professor Abusalah Sakender of the Department of Islamic History and Culture at Jagannath University for spreading false and fabricated information through Facebook posts.

Today (April 30), Dr. Abul Hossen lodged a written complaint to the vice chancellor of the university against accused teacher Abusalah Sakender.

In the complaint letter, he mentioned, “Abusalah Sakender posted on Facebook alleging that I concealed information about being a special member of the PhD committee. Actually, I participated in a public seminar by Dr. Jahangir Hussain (current proctor) from the Department of Islamic History and Culture. Every person(dean) tries to attend a public seminar when invited.

Even though I was not a member of the committee, my reputation and professional integrity have been compromised by the false posts. By spreading falsehoods against a dean, he is not only undermining the dignity of Jagannath University but also tarnishing its reputation, I believe.”

In the complaint letter, the former president of the teachers’ association, Dr. Abul Hossen, further stated, “I previously informed the former vice chancellor in writing about various false allegations made by Abusalah Sakender against me on Facebook. I am requesting appropriate action be taken following an impartial investigation into Abusalah Sakender’s conduct.

Moreover, upon investigation, it was found that the allegations made through accused teacher Abusalah Sakender’s Facebook posts are not true. I was not one of the three members evaluated by the committee for the PhD seminar.”

Prior to this, in 2012, Abusalah Sakender was detained by the students of Jahangirnagar University in an unfavourable situation with a first-year female student of his own department. He was detained by the proctorial body, leading to marriage, as well as unsavoury behaviour, written complaints by two students, harsh remarks towards the Prime Minister in class, and various incidents, including verbal abuse towards senior teachers including the Vice-Chancellor, Deans, and Proctors on Facebook. In 2019, during the 71st departmental academic meeting, Abusalah Sakender was exempted from all academic events. Subsequently, he continued to post on Facebook, including abusive posts against senior teachers. Due to various derogatory remarks made in class, including criticising the Prime Minister, students organised protests against him on campus.

Dr. Ainul Islam, the acting registrar of the university, stated that “No one is getting a good behave from him(Sakender). I’ve heard about the allegations. Everyone must abide by the rules. Multiple investigation committees are working against him. I doubt whether he is a teacher. The administration will take action according to the investigation.”

A committee has been formed to investigate all these allegations against teacher Abusalah Sakender. The latest Syndicate has been instructed to present the investigation committee for scrutiny. Additionally, written complaints have been submitted by the Islamic History and Culture Department and the Pro-Awami teachers’ organisation, Team Blue, seeking the maximum punishment for Abusalah Sakender. The teachers’ association has also condemned Sakender’s Facebook posts.
