A 90-meter bridge in Kamarpara area over the Lauhjong River of Tangail’s Mirzapur upazila has become uncertain to use due to the sheer negligence of the authority. Residents of three upazila have suffered most as the contractor left some construction work and did not construct the approach road. The residents have to travel 30-40 miles to communicate with the upazila and district headquarters.
Moreover, the construction of the bridge has become more uncertain as two persons named Hatim Ali and Nuru Molla have filed a written complaint with the higher authority demanding compensation.
According to Mirzapur Upazila LGED office source, the construction work of this 90-meter long and 9.8 meters wide paved bridge over the Lauhjong River in Kamarpara area of Mirzapur Upazila started in 2021 at the cost of Tk 10 crore 18 lakh 93 thousand 6 hundred and 94. Construction of the bridge was under the responsibility of M/s Asim Singh Enterprises. Under various pretexts, the contractor was negligent in the construction of the bridge. Following the complaint, the contractor sold the work to a contractor named SR Khan Tutul. Currently he is working.
The demand for construction of a paved bridge over the Laujong River in Kamarpara area on the south side of Mirzapur-Bhaora-Kamarpara market was a long cherished dream of the local residents. Due to the lack of a paved bridge here, the southern part of Mirzapur upazila, Bhora, Bahuria and Warshi Union and neighboring Dhamrai and Saturia upazilas were suffering greatly. Boats were the only hope during the rainy season and bamboo poles in Narvar during the dry season.
Chairman of Bhaora Union Parishad in this regard Masudur Rahman Masud said that since the bridge was not constructed, the residents of Mirzapur, Dhamrai and Saturia upazilas in the southern part of Mirzapur have to travel 30-40 miles to communicate with upazila Mirzapur and district headquarters Tangail.

With the demands of the local residents and the overall cooperation of the Upazila Engineering Office, the contractor started working again in 2022, but the entire work has been delayed due to various reasons. He strongly demanded to complete the construction of the bridge at the earliest.
In this regard, the sub-contractor of the contracting company M/s Asim Singh Enterprise said that the contractor named SR Khan Tutul of this area is currently working on the bridge. After taking up the job he is working on welding of PC girders and bridge top. They claimed that the construction of the entire bridge is being delayed due to various reasons including construction of approach roads on both sides and design changes.
The construction of the bridge will be completed once the block is available. In this regard, the current contractor for the construction of the bridge, SR Khan Tutul, was called several times on his mobile number (01711-193796) for details, but he repeatedly cut off the call without receiving. As a result, it was not possible to take his statement.
In this regard, Upazila Engineer (LGED) Md. Arifur Rahman said that the contractor has been repeatedly requested to complete the bridge construction work in a timely manner on the instructions of Mamnoi MP. The design has been modified for the construction of two sided approach roads. He hopes that the construction work of the bridge will be completed soon if the design is approved and approved.
