In Mirzapur upazila of Tangail, four union parishads’ (UP) offices have been standing in dilapidated and dangerous condition for three decades. A haunted atmosphere has been created in the building. Valuable papers and furniture are being destroyed by rainwater taking away the roofs of dangerous and dilapidated buildings. The secretary and chairman-members of the respective Union Parishads are doing their official work amid insecurity with risk in mind. He feared a major accident any time after the collapse of the hazardous building. On Monday (April 29) it was found that the buildings are very dilapidated and dangerous.
According to the office of the Upazila Executive Officer, Nzhukipurna and Zarajirna Union Parishads of Mirzapur Upazila are No. 2 Zamurki Union Parishad, No. 6 Anaitara Union Parishad, No. 9 Bahuria Union Parishad and Bhaora Union Parishad. Chairman of No. 2 Jamurki Union Parishad DA Matin said, the tinset building of Union Parishad located on the eastern side of Pakulya bus station adjacent to Dhaka-Tangail highway is very dilapidated and dangerous. Due to various complications and lack of funds, no sanction has been given till date to renovate the tinset building of this union parishad and make it a multi-storied building. Even if it rains a little, valuable documents and furniture are destroyed by water. There is a pond in front of the tinset building. Tinset Union Parishad building is also on the verge of collapsing due to the collapse of the pond.
Chairman of No. 6 Anaitara Union Parishad Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal Moynal Haque said that the condition of Tinset building of his Union Parishad should be improved. Any time the tinset building collapses, major accidents can occur. For the construction of a new building, he has been submitting many applications to different ministries including upazila administration, upazila parishad, district commissioner. But till date the new barad has not been constructed and even the dilapidated tinset building has not been renovated.
Chairman of Bahuria Union Abu Said Mia Chadu says that for almost three decades, the building of his union is very dilapidated and full of danger.
