Acting on intelligence provided by a professional thief, Chowkbazar Model Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) successfully recovered five firearms and apprehended five individuals in connection with the case.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Rajib Hossain Rana, Md. Shahen, Md. Abul Hasan Sujan, Md. Parvez Noor, and Manik Chandra Das.
Dr. Kha Mahid Uddin BPM (Bar), Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime & Ops), who has recently been promoted to the post of Additional IGP, confirmed this development during a press
briefing held at the DMP Media Center on Sunday afternoon. According to Additional Commissioner of Police Dr. Kha Mahid Uddin, on April 12, the Chawkbazar Thana police apprehended a professional thief named Md. Mamun, believed to be the mastermind of a gang, and his associates in relation to a house theft case in East Islambagh of Chawkbazar.
Following the interrogation of Mamun and his associates, Md. Rajib Hossain Rana was arrested by Chawkbazar Model Police Station in possession of a foreign pistol of 7.65 bore along with a magazine filled with seven rounds of bullets.
Further investigation based on Rana’s statements led to the arrest of Md. Shahen. Acting on Shahen’s information, Abul Hasan Sujan was apprehended with a foreign pistol and a magazine containing five rounds of bullets from the Soarighat fish market area.
Upon interrogation of Sujan, a black domestically manufactured firearm and two rounds of cartridges concealed in a bag were recovered from the roof of a house located on the 7th floor in Keraniganj.
The police continue to investigate the matter to uncover any further connections or illegal activities associated with this group.
