Thousands of Bangladeshis have gathered for special prayers called ‘Istiskara Salat’ seeking rainfall in the middle of an extreme heatwave that remained for the last couple of weeks across the country, causing several deaths from acute hot weather, and the government kept the schools and colleges shut.
Muslim worshippers gathered in city mosques, including the capital Dhaka, and in rural fields on Thursday amid the scorching hot weather to pray to almighty Allah, seeking rainfall for relief from the heat wave.
Bangladesh’s weather department says that average maximum temperatures in the capital Dhaka over the past week have been 39–41 degrees Fahrenheit higher than the 30-year average for the same period.
