State Minister implements 55-student class limit

State Minister for Education Begum Shamsun Nahar Chapa has directed educational institutions not to exceed 55 students per class in the new curriculum.

She issued this directive during the inauguration of a two-day orientation workshop on “New Curriculum Development, Monitoring, and Mentoring” held on Thursday.

The workshop, organized by officials from the Ministry of Education, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Technical and Madrasa Education Division, Directorate of Technical Education, and Secondary Education Development Program (SEDP), was part of the “Dissemination of New Curriculum” initiative under the Secondary Education Development Program at Brac CDM in Savar, reports UNB.
Addressing the gathering, State Minister Begum Shamsun Nahar Chapa acknowledged the challenges in implementing the new curriculum, including a shortage of teachers in educational institutions and the potential disparity in the teacher-student ratio.
She highlighted the efforts of the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) in addressing the teacher shortage issue.
The state minister emphasized the importance of admitting no more than 55 students per class under the new curriculum and assured that steps have been taken to enforce this limit, with plans to address any associated challenges gradually.
She underscored the need for collective efforts to implement the new curriculum effectively and suggested aligning educational administration responsibilities with the evolving educational landscape.
The orientation workshop, she mentioned, aimed to raise awareness among officers regarding their respective roles and responsibilities.
Regarding financial constraints, the state minister assured that budgetary allocations for education have significantly increased and will continue to rise in the future. She encouraged all stakeholders involved in curriculum formulation and implementation to address concerns promptly, including evaluation methods and parental worries about students’ higher education prospects.
Besides, she emphasized the importance of collective engagement in realizing the vision of the new curriculum and urged swift resolution of any arising issues.
